Muslim Foodie: Glam Doll Donuts

By Adam Majewski

Minneapolis, MN- As a Muslim in a Foodie state, especially one of the hubs of the upper midwest it can some times be difficult to find a good bakery which caters to our dietary needs of Halal Foods. How ever there have been a few Bakeries popping up here and there in the twin cities which are quit interesting to visit. In a recent visit to Glam Doll Donuts how ever, they have a few good selections, they how ever do not have a great selection for our dietary needs and i not only don't want to suggest this place for coffee and sweet treats I can as a Muslim Food writer.

Even if I were to suggest this out let, their menu Items are quit small and are to some extent a bit to doughy. The one item I was able to eat due to dietary restrictions was a cream filled donut it was good but i would not go out of my way to go there again.

The CSA Bakery, Better Known As CSB's.

Community Supported Bakeries(CSB), a new business model idea taking some what of a new model for the test tube bakery to get started. What the concept does is gives Bakery and Pastry chefs a chance to actually make their dream of owning their own bakery come alive.

In any food service business, making it to the two year mark after opening is what many Chefs, Bakers and Caterers first need to grasp as a first big mile stone dream within their business. reason being that they are doomed to fail financially if they don't make it in good standing.

What CSB business model's do is helps set up a breeding ground for product development, brings in more steady cash flow in the beginning and allows for the business to set up in more of a steady market see where their clients are actually coming from.

These bakeries don't have actual store front's to begin with but instead is more online based and with the support or help of a rented out commercial kitchen, the kind most caterers rent or even own if they have that kind of start up capital. Normally CSB's start out in their local neighborhood's then expand from their using their first clients as baked good's, lab rats to find out the best way's to create their tasty treats.

If you've never thought of this or heard of this type of start-up business it something to look in to as a possibility, especially if you are a foodie looking to support new local Chefs trying to get their start some where. Here in Minneapolis, MN there are two CSB's, The April Fool's Virtual Bakery and
Majestic Chef here, both how ever are quit different with their set up so it's good to check both out through contacting them directly. The April Fool's owned by Kim and Mark a wife and Husband Duo. Majestic Chef owned and operated by Asma Abdille and Adam Majewski another Husband and Wife Duo Mr. Majewski being the Bakery Brains and Asma the business end. Family Ties part 1 (Opinion Piece)

By Adam Majewski

Minneapolis, MN- Marriage is a wonderful time, and is so many time's more often then not, stressed over for the wrong reasons. Many people when just getting married with in their own community. they have many concerns, general worries. are they good enough for the other person are they not, are they just marrying the person for emotional reasons.

When entering a family where the cultural differences can be and usually are much more stressful than one truly thinks it will ever really be it can be difficult at first. It also brings a slew of greatly different feelings from the families, uncertainty and fear of what no one knows. However these feelings and concerns are human and keep us in check as individuals. It helps us keep a reality in focus to make sure that we don't bail out of a situation which is completely normal.

This past week end, I my self became a married man. Something when I was growing up never thought would happen due to my own parents some what uncomfortable divorce for my sister maggie and my self. How ever we got through it and are living our own good happy lives, her being married the year before myself.

January 25, I married the woman of my dream a dream I came to realize after the fact of meeting her. in the west where I grew up there is the idea that all love between a Husband and Wife is that of the endorphins high which all relationships see and feel at the beginning of a truly loving relationship. how ever most marriages end in failure do to a few small facts.

A few of these I have come to realize for my self as I see my self grow every day as a husband in a positive way. First I need to mention that my wife and I have some difficulties or disadvantages some of which most other relationships do not have so we as a loving couple have to first off work a lot harder to communicate as well keep in reality that we are both human and are going to make mistakes. Also that we must remember but not dwell on those mistake in order to change and continue forward to becoming better people and a better husband and wife.

The things which I have notice about love and marriage is that they  are about five major things give or take a few. that everyone needs to keep close to themselves and stick to if their marriage to continue forward. I do understand that my marriage is very young but my wife and I have been together long enough as friends and a couple that the religious and legal formalities in order to take part in starting a family together where only the las piece of this puzzle we call Dunia or life. These 3 items I say starts with: 1. Communication, this is number one on at least my list because if a couple does not communicate at all then sorry, but the relationship will end in divorce. 2. For a good relationship to continue then the second most important relationship need is acceptance, what I mean by this is that, there are going to be times when a married couple has no interests in some areas such as maybe the type of books they read. My own wife reads more biographical books my self I read cook books and fiction. the key though is that in some cases we will just be a part but the key is finding ways to bring our interests together so when reading even though reading different book types it is to read when together and accepting that we wont always have the same interests. 3. The third is a life plan and change. No matter what happens in a relationship plans don't normally go how you want them to, but it is important that as a couple you plan for what you want in life and keep in mind that some of the items on your plan will change depending on life events but to keep in mind the end result of what you want in life and to keep trying.

Now these are just a starting point for marriage after these are taken care of then all other parts can be taken in to consideration. How ever these are also just my views on the matter of what a good relationship needs before marriage, and I am not an educated licensed Professional so that means you should take this article with a grain of salt, before just jumping in to anything and find what is right for you.

Muslim Foodie: Somali Tea home style

By Adam Majewski

There are many ways to prepare tea across the globe from Moroccan mint tea, to English earl gray, Japanese green and oolang tea and to East African black tea. One of the most well known in Muslim culture here in Minnesota is Somali Tea, which is black tea steeped with cardamom and served with sugar and steamed milk.

It can how ever be difficult to emulate Somali Tea made at some of the Twin Cities Somali mall's. Fallowing this very simple recipe though you can come darn close if not making it better.

Somali Tea Recipe:

For a six 6 OZ pot of tea.

3 tea bags of your favorite black tea.
4 full tablespoons of sugar
1 and a half tablespoons of ground cardamom
3/4 cup of warmed up heavy cream.

1. first you will want to put enough water on to boil for 6 cups of tea.

2. as the water is heating up, in the tea pot you will want to put your three tea bags, sugar and cardamom. when the water comes to a boil turn off the heat and let sit, counting to 5 then pour in to the tea pot with your tea set up.

3. While you are waiting for the tea to steep put your heavy whipping cream in a shallow sauce pan on high. keep an eye on it cause one you start seeing shallow bubbles on the side of the pan you will want to turn the heat down to medium heat and take a egg beater and whip the cream on medium speed for 30 to 60 seconds. once you hit that time mark you will add the heavy whipping cream to your tea mixing it slightly.

4. now your teat is ready to serve, enjoy!.

Rights Of Our Women-Introduction

By Adam Majewski
Minneapolis, MN-Around the world human rights violations are happening daily. These rights range from governments restricting adequate access to food, to child abuse, oppression of women, people with disabilities being forced to beg because in some areas they are viewed as lower on the food chain and don't deserve to live their lives to men being killed for being part of the wrong tribe.

Many different factors play in to such oppression, and violations. The biggest of which is religion, not being the religions them selves but the follower's of religion and different belief systems. In our own faith as Muslims we have the largest statistics for these violations. It yes, is sad to say that many of us continue to support these violations with our own actions or lack there of.

One of the major factors in this is that there is a lack of understanding with in much of the islamic community, that progressiveness is a necessity with in any community no mater what. This does not mean the believers or faithful stop being Pius and Rightious, what is means is that in order to fully understand what is being taught and brought forth with in our faith is that the Quran teaches us the belief in one God and Allah's unity. It also teaches that everyone is equal in his view and has equal rights. it is us human's who distort what he has sent forth to us to benefit our own want's and needs.

With this small introduction we will be seeing the benefits and the negative affects through future articles written by people of all walks of life.
